Some users complain that when trying to add some files to MP3, play or copy some songs via Windows Media Player, they keep on getting a message saying “file did not fit on device”. Sometimes, this error message appears even if there is enough room on the device (selected in Tools/Devices option). Because of this annoying popping-up error message, they are not able to transfer, play songs, etc via Windows Media Player properly. Here, taking my own experience as an example, I am going to tell you how to deal with this Windows Media “Did not fit on device” problem.
When finding yourself fail to transfer, play songs correctly via Windows Media Player, make sure that the device is plugged into the computer firmly and it is on MSC mode…Then, go to All Programs – Accessories – Windows Explorer, find the SanDisk in My Computer, go to Media, music and then back up all of your songs here. Then, follow the instructions below:
*Connect the player to the PC using the USB cable.
*Open Windows Media Player.
* Go to the Sync or Devices tab and delete all content from the player.
*Go to the Tools menu and select Options.
*Select the Devices tab, highlight the music player and click on Properties.
*Uncheck the box “Create Folder Hierarchy on Device”.
Then, when the music is transferred, it will be placed in the root directory of the flash memory disregarding the folder structure, allowing all tracks to be seen and less cache memory used indicating the device full error. Moreover, after these steps, you will be able to play some audio files via Windows Media Player properly.
However, to deal with the “Did not fit on device” error, you still need to make sure the computer is totally viruses free. It is known that viruses are able to get onto the computer secretly without your knowledge as you surf the web, download a file, or chat with others online … Soon after getting onto the PC, they may randomly do whatever as they like, for example, attack / remove/rename any files on the hard disk. If some of your music files have been mistakenly attacked or renamed and disguised by a malicious threat, it will show a “file did not fit on device” error message again and again when you try transferring, playing them. For the proper running of the computer, all your added software/hardware, it is highly advised that you can completely scan the whole PC with a trusted antivirus antispyware program and remove all detected viruses immediately. By the way, you’d better let it always run in the background to block and delete any potential risks to the PC. By the way, this helps to easily prevent some other PC errors like Windows update errors or Windows error 12150.
Thirdly, completely scan and repair Windows registry errors at the same time. As you install the Windows Media Played on the PC, some corresponding entries will be added to the Windows registry database automatically. This way, the computer should know how to perform each request to this player correctly. However, as you install/uninstall some programs incompletely, or as the computer gets infected, some system required entries will be wrongly deleted; and at the same time, lots of useless, invalid, or broken keys will be left or added to this database. If the Windows Media Player cannot locate the needed entries to transfer, play your desired songs, a “Did not fit on device” error message will appear. Thus, what you need to do right now is to thoroughly scan the whole PC and get rid of all errors inside the Windows registry database.
Well, it is quite common for us the use the computer to play some songs via Windows Media Player. This makes our computer life enjoyable and pleasant. However, the sudden Windows Media “Did not fit on device” error message will stop you from playing, transferring, copying songs correctly. Stop worrying from now on, and you will be able to instantly solve the error on your own.
