fix runtime error

You could come across one of the above runtime error 1004 message when using Microsoft Excel. Typically, such a runtime error message happens if one or more of the cells in an array (range of cells) contain a character string that is set to contain more than 911 characters. But how can you fix it easily on your own?

To deal with runtime error 1004, first you should remove computer infections. We all know that computer viruses are able to tamper with the system settings / memory or remove some required system files like msmpeng.exe. Hence, they have become one main cause of the runtime error. First of all, you have to make sure that the virus protection program on your computer has been updated to latest updated version; and then you can run it to detect & remove all PC threats from the computer. However, if you do not have such program to protect your computer, download a freeware one immediately from the computer.

Secondly, some programs or games especially the Microsoft Office program will bring in the annoying runtime error 1004 to appear. Hence, if you are getting the error message right now, go to check the developer’s website to see whether there are some available updates. If so, update the program directly to repair the runtime error. If not, uninstall and then reinstall the program causing the issue again to see whether the problems. In many cases, the Windows runtime error will be repaired if you have overwritten the old folder with the fresh newly ones.

By the way, it is best if you can run the System File Checker (SFC) to scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace the corrupted ones when necessary. Missing and corrupt operating system files are arguably the biggest cause of major Windows issues including the runtime error 1004 messages. When the system cannot locate the correct file to perform a certain request, it will generate different error messages. Considering this, run the SFC /scannnow to troubleshoot your computer right now:

* Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
*Then type “sfc /scannow” and then press ENTER to go.

If you still get the runtime error 1004 message, maybe the problem exist in the Windows registry. No matter you are surfing online, or installing software and program, the Windows registry database stores all the configuration and information about it, thus making your registry a repository of so many information that ensure the smooth running of the computer. However, registry errors arise as files and programs are being moved around to cause the runtime error 1004 and some other computer error messages. For example, as you uninstall a program, some registry information may still be left, contributing to the load of your PC or a mess up of the registry database that may eventually affect PC performance and different kinds of computer errors. So the final step you should do is to download & run a registry cleaner program to thoroughly scan your PC and fix all existing errors right now.

In my opinion, no matter you are a computer newbie or advanced PC technician, you are able to completely troubleshoot the whole PC and fix runtime error 1004 on your own. Even if you are not facing with this issue right now, I still recommend you to bookmark this post for future usage. I believe you will find it helpful!
